Spring Fundraiser
This year Our Lady of Mercy School and our Catholic Community Council are having their annual fundraiser on Saturday June 16, at the school. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to the school to help support student learning.
The day will begin with a huge Garage Sale and Silent Auction at 9:00 a.m. The Auction will feature new sports equipment, athletic wear, gift certificates and many other terrific items.
Environmentally Friendly
As an Eco school we are always looking for ways to protect our environment. A garage sale is an excellent way to recycle items that could find their way to a landfill site. Not only are we raising money with a garage sale but we are also caring for the environment.
Don't forget to check out our environment booth for information concerning our environment.
Used Battery Collection
If you have old car, truck, lawn tractor or household batteries please feel free to drop them off at the school. From the school hey will be taken to the local landfill site where they will be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
CHALICE CANS
Once again this year we will be supporting families in developing countries through Chalice. Chalice cans will be sent home with each family to collect loose change and raise money for this organization. This can be a family project for Lent.
Our religion theme for this year is: YOU ARE THE VOICE OF THE LIVING GOD. This year we will be examining this theme and relating it to how we conduct ourselves as Catholic Christians. This theme is especially relevant as it applies to the current situation in Somalia. Our students will be investigating the question: How can we be the voice of God to the people of Somalia?
HEALTHY SCHOOLS
Ontario has introduced its School Food and Beverage Policy that includes nutritious standards for food and beverages sold in schools. This policy includes foods and beverages sold in cafeterias, vending machines, catered lunch programs and all events on school property. The nutrition standards do not apply to lunches or snacks that are brought from home.
Studies have demonstrated that children learn and focus better when they eat foods from the four food groups in Canada's Food Guide. Studies have also shown that children who are consistently involved in physical activities perform better in school and have a healthier life.
Although the policy does not apply to food and beverages brought from home, at Our Lady of Mercy we encourage students to make healthy choices that will give them the nutrients and energy to help them be successful at school.
We ask for your support with this initiative.
